I like it when you read a book. The spine gets all folded over, the pages are spread eagle. Its like the book also changes when you read it, not only you. And you can never make it brand spanking new again. Were you to take something as ordinary like this and try to make it into something slightly poetic, you could say that it is almost as symbol of how yo’ll never go back to your old self after the reading is all done. The smallest changes will all be there. Some of your pages ruffled, some folded, your spine messed up (probably due to the reading).

Of all my habits, I think wearing down books with my reading is my best one.

I really dig a good conversation. Yesterday was my last day in Taipei (at least for the next few weeks, and even then, if I decide to actually come back). As opposed to opting for going out and getting shitfaced, I went out for some good ol’ fashioned shisha and afterwards went to a friend’s house. All we did for 8 hours straight was talk. There was some drinking involved but it was mild. This is why I love my friends (and my brother). The evening was showing signs of becoming scarringly inappropiate when a friend suggested playing “never have I ever” and my kin and I both promptly yelled “NO!”, disregarding the fact that reaction alone revealed a lot. Anywhore, family awareness behind, conversation started with the mentioning of a book containing the sort of questions you’d be asked were you to apply for work at Google. One thing led to another and we found ourselves discussing quantum physics, relativity, schrodinger’s cat, tele transportation, religion, vacuums, space, time travel, evolution, wall street. Sweet Lord, what didn’t we talk about? It was so engrossing, so enthralling, so irrevocably timeless that before we knew it, we were well into the morning. I loved every second of it. I also loved being able to disagree with some opinions and still be able to discuss like a civilized being.
I certainly hope everybody has the chance to participate in such conversations. Timeless conversations. Good peeps. Who would’ve thought a simple search engine could’ve brought about such a vast array of topics?
